Effect of diabetes

Human Body

Diabetes is rightly in commonly known as high blood sugar. It affects the body’s ability to produce or use insulin which is a hormone that allows the body to turn glucose into energy. If it is diagnosed early then it can be managed also on time but when left untreated it can lead to potential complications that include heart disease, stroke, kidney damage and nerve damage.

Normally when you eat food your body will break down sugar from your food and use them for energy. To do this job the pancreas needs to produce a hormone called insulin. Insulin is actually the one which facilitates the process of pulling sugar from the blood and converting it to energy. But when a person has diabetes your pancreas either produces very little insulin or none at all. The work of insulin is left undone. This will make the sugar in the blood level rise while there are cells which are deprived of any energy. This lead to a wide variety of problem affecting nearly every major body system.

There are two main type of diabetes

Type 1: It is insulin-dependent diabetes. Your own immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas destroying body’s ability to make insulin. People who have type 1 diabetes are required to take insulin to live.

Type 2: It is related to insulin resistance. This is a result of poor lifestyle, dietary and exercise habits. Here the pancreas stops using the insulin effectively. This causes a problem as an issue with pulling sugar from the blood and put into the cell for energy. Eventually, it needs insulin medication for a person.

Effect on endocrine, excretory and digestive systems

If your pancreas produces little or no insulin alternative hormones are used to turn fat into energy. This creates a high level of toxic chemicals including acid and ketone bodies. This is a serious complication of the disease. This results in extreme thirst, excessive urination, and fatigue. Excess ketones in urine can confirm diabetic ketoacidosis. It this condition left untreated cause loss of consciousness and even death.

High blood glucose level may cause gastroparesis which means it becomes hard to completely empty your stomach. This delay can cause blood sugar level to rise. As a result, it may cause nausea, vomiting, bloat, and heartburn.

Kidney damage

Diabetes can also damage your kidney and affect their liability to filter waste products from the blood. If the urine has a high level of protein which means the kidney is not functioning properly. Kidney disease related to diabetes s diabetic nephropathy.

Circulatory system

Diabetes may raise the risk of high blood pressure which puts further strain on your heart. When you have a high level of glucose in the blood the formation of fatty deposit in blood vessel wall increases. It risks the hardening of the blood vessel. According to the study, diabetes doubles your risk of heart disease and stroke. Control your blood sugar and have good eating habits and regular exercise this will help in lowering the risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels also. Lack of blood flow can eventually affect your hand and feet and cause pain while you are walking. It may also increase the risk of developing infection or ulcer of the foot.

Conclusion

The Human Body is a masterpiece of nature, intricately designed and marvelously efficient. Understanding its complexities enhances our appreciation for life and motivates us to care for our bodies.
